Vinatieri More Like Vinascary
So how is it that a New England sports icon like Adam Vinatieri is not resigned by the "New England" Patriots, but rather signed by the Indianapolis Colts? Well, I think this question cannot be answered by a guy like Tom Brady. He's not the right guy to ask for this reason; his current contract is worth 60 million over 6 years, that’s 10 million a year. In comparison a worse Quarterback, judging postseason wins and super bowl rings, Peyton Manning is making about 98 million over the course of his current deal. Obviously Tom Brady understands that money isn't everything and that you can't put a price on winning.
This signing does make sense if you're Vinatieri, I mean he’s not getting any younger and most likely spending at least half of your games outside in varying weather conditions is going to take a toll on his body. With Indy he will play half of his games inside in a controlled climate, which might extend his career and make him more effective in the years to come. Also Vinatieri is the guy who hadn't missed a kick indoors until recently. By recently I mean within the last four years. Also there is the fact that Indy has a very good team, as much as I hate to admit that, and his chances of winning a Super Bowl are still very high.
Worst of all this off-season I have seen the Patriots fall apart slowly. They didn't give money to Givens, one of their best receivers since he came to New England. I believe he could have been the best if he was thrown to more. Willie McGinist is gone a victim of the salary cap. I thought he understood loyalty, I mean 12 years, 3 Super Bowls, and countless fans with one team to go to Cleveland? It just doesn't make sense. All I know is that the Patriots better start spending the money they have from letting guys go soon and get players to fill their spots. Maybe Lavar Arrington, Mike Vanderjagt, and an underrated, under used receiver to fill the voids left by these three very important guys? I'm ok with that, might as well be, because from where I'm sitting I don't see many more options.
Vinatieri is just plain selfish and it was money that he was after. Apparently a price can be put on loyalty to a team that picked you up as an undrafted kicker back in the day. With him signing with the Colts it will all but erase the things he did in New England and instead of being in the ranks of Boston greats like Ted Williams, Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Larry Bird etc. He will now be brought up in the company of other, "sell outs" Johnny Damon, Pedro Martinez, and any other player who left New England for the dollars.
